Inuktitut syllabics is an abugida, not an alphabet - ᑖᒻ ᔅᑳᑦ and ᖃᓂᐅᔮᖅᐸᐃᑦ

Inuktitut, the language spoken in Nunavut, Canada, is written using symbols that represent syllables. The direction of each symbol is what tells you the vowel being used. As Tom says, this is indeed very clever! But also, in my opinion, it is one of the most visually pleasing writing systems currently in use. The other two that come to mind are Korean Hangul and the Hebrew abjads (both Ktav Asuri and the Paleo-Hebrew script).

Inuktitut syllabics are brilliant. A writing system that's not an alphabet, but something really clever: an abugida, one designed from scratch for a language very unlike anything European.
